“Denkyem” soccer fever grips tema.

Denkyem Charitable Foundation Inc. is the best thing to happen to the youth within the Tema metropolis, specifically around communities two (2) and five (5).
Football loving youth converged to demonstrate their skills in a tournament dubbed “Denkyem New Year Soccer Fiesta”, and it lived to its billing because it was real soccer artistry on display, confirming the abundance of talent in Ghana.
The tournament played at the community two number four primary school, on Saturday the 4th of January 2014, involved teams from Italian Flats, BBC, Mangoase and Community 5 in both the under 12 and 14 age categories in a seven (7) aside and Six (6) aside respectively.
At the end of the day, BBC were crowned under 14 champions, after defeating Mangoase on penalties en route to the finals. They beat Community five by one goal to nil in a hotly contested match. The under 12 category was won by community five, beating Italian Flats on penalties after a one all draw during regulation time. They then proceeded to the final and defeated BBC in a penalty shoot out.
Both Teams were presented with a trophy, and prizes like soccer boots and pocket radios were awarded to the best players and goal kings for both categories. The presentations were done by the guest of honor, Mr. Isaac Robert Pobee, Chairman for the National Democratic Congress (Tema West constituency).
All the participating teams and kids who patronized the event were given free drinks and pastries, as well as music to dance to.
Denkyem Charitable Foundation is a non profit making organization based in the United States of America, founded by King Ohene Asomaning who is the president, and specializes in the development of the youth particularly in soccer and health/ fitness etc. “Denkyem Ghana” is a subsidiary, and headed by Ato Yanney Jnr as vice president, a filmmaker and businessman by profession. The organization now has over 400 children who have registered to be part, in community two (2) Tema alone, since it started operations about 3 years ago, not mentioning the other communities. The number is likely to increase when other areas across the length and breadth of the country are included. “Denkyem” also supports some selected government primary schools in the Tema Metropolis, eg. The community two (2) number four (4) primary school, who have been supplied with footballs, staff sports jerseys, and coaching personnel to assist in their sporting activities.
The event was supported by Aqua Fortiss mineral water; Flamboyant Films; a Tema based film production house, King Global Ventures, a trading company situated in countries like the U.S.A, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago and Ghana, Builders of Today (BOTA), also a non governmental organization, and Fusion Image Solutions (Tema).
