Ghana to pitch camp in Ethiopia ahead of Egypt clash

The Black Stars of Ghana will move their camping base to Addis Ababa ahead of the second leg World Cup qualifying tie against Egypt in November.

The Black Stars are poised to make a third successive appearance at the World Cup after defeating the Pharaohs by 6-1 in the first leg of the final qualifying tie in Kumasi on Tuesday.

Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi announced the team’s plans for the final tie to Nhyira FM Power Sports on Wednesday morning. Kwesi Nyantakyi explained that the choice of Ethiopia as a camping base was strategic.

"We have decided to train in Ethiopia before leaving for Egypt for the second leg tie. We have chosen Ethiopia because of the altitude and good weather conditions for the match", he said.

"We had trained there before our games against Sudan and Lesotho and we all saw the results. Ethiopia is 2,500 meters above sea level and the highest point in Africa. When you train there and play at a lower altitude you rarely get tired," he added.

The return match is expected to be played on November 19 in Cairo if FIFA is pleased with safety measures in the North African country.
