Ghana-Egypt: healthy rivalry to be ignited

When the kick off takes place on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, it will be the history of long cherished friendship, diplomatic and business ties between Ghana and Egypt being echoed.
After leading Ghana to Independence in 1957, then President Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah chose to marry an Egyptian, Fathia. Egypt also became one of the first countries to exchange diplomatic ties with Ghana. Presidents Kwame Nkrumah and Gamel Abdul Nassir became so close to each other to the extent that both countries have monuments including streets named after the other.
The Egyptian national team have played their Ghanaian counterparts several times under a very peaceful atmosphere. The Egyptian league has also been the home of many Ghanaian footballers over the years and so has clubs in both countries met many times under CAF auspices. In terms of business, the two countries have remained pivotal to each other’s economy.
The October 15 World Cup qualifying clash will therefore be another fine opportunity to FUSE long cherished mutual respect with the desire to succeed and fair play.
Just as Nkrumah’s marriage to Fathia IGNITED team spirit and African unity, so will the October 15 clash IGNITE passion and the can-do spirit. Ghana and Egypt will play together to FUSE and IGNITE the nation’s passion, football. FUSION IGNITE II therefore wishes the Black Stars and the Pharaohs a passion IGNITED football.
