Muntari suspended for Serie A opener

AC Milan’s midfielder Sulley Muntari will be missing for Saturday’s Serie A opener against Verona in the Italian top-flight because he is suspended.

The Ghana international is among 10 players of the Serie A giants who will not be playing in the match.

Muntari exclusion raised some eye brows among some Ghanaian football fans as he is a key player for the Italian team.

But Ghanasoccernet.com can reveal that Muntari is still serving a suspension for a red card he took at the tail end of last season.

AC Milan will have 10 players missing for their opening match of the Serie A season at Hellas Verona on Saturday including Kevin-Prince Boateng, Nigel De Jong, Sulley Muntari and Giampaolo Pazzini.

Allegri’s injury woes were exacerbated on Tuesday night when Boateng and De Jong both left the field injured during his side’s 1-1 draw at PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of their Champions League playoff. Milan finished third in Serie A last season.
