Promote female football - Samira

Samira Suleimana appeals to GFA to organize more events for female footballers

Aspiring 2013 Female Footballer of the year Samira Suleimana has appealed to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to organize more events for them so that they can improve upon their talents and also motivate more girls to play football.

Speaking to yours truly in Accra, the skipper of Ghana Female Soccer Champions Sekondi Hassacas Ladies said there are more girls in the villages and districts who want to play but they are not being encouraged by anybody.

The graduate of Robert Morrison University in the United States of America (USA) said Ghana has a lot of skillful players, but lack of education, exposure and financial backing is making many people not to discover their talents or God-given skills. She said the GFA must do more by organizing the Ladies League, Gala, Knock Out, Top Four or Top Eight and Inter Schools a nd Colleges events to see all those who want to play football. She added that the universities, secondary schools and training colleges have a great role to play in unearthing female players and called on the coaches at the various universities not to rest on their oars but train hard and find ways to invite more players to play the women’s game.

Samira Suleimana said Ghana can be a strong female football nation like America if right structures and the right personnel are put in the right places.

“ Ghana has gone to the FIFA Women’s World Cup and won bronze at the last Female Under 17 Championships, so who says we are not good, we only need support and we want the media to help us so that we can improve” she said.
