30 paddlers to begin Black Dragons camping in Ada Friday

Ghana’s preparations towards participation in the impending international Dragon Boat racing tournament in Hungary shoots into full gear when 30 paddlers begin camping in Ada this coming Friday May 17.

The 30 paddlers of which 25 will be selected to compose the first ever national team, Black Dragons for the trip to Hungary, were selected from the various clubs that participated in the recent national dragon boat championships and launch of the latest dragon boats in Ada.

They will camp every weekend Friday to Sunday under the supervision of Ghana Rafting and Dragon Boat Association Technical Director, Farouk Moro and three other coaches until their departure for the world championship scheduled for 20 to 30 July in Hungary. “We’re trying to put the team in shape. They have the skills already but we need to teach them a few techniques and boost their confidence, muscles and energy levels to enhance their endurance. You need endurance to be able to finish in good time and win competitions. We’ll be ready,” Farouk Moro told www.sportsinghana.com.

Also assuring full support during the camping all the way to the tournament in the European country two months hence is the President of the Ghana Rafting and Dragon Boat Association, Hon. Rex Daniel Wussah. The District Chief Executive of Ada is also urging the paddlers to take the sport seriously because of the huge benefits they stand to gain if they excel.

“The camping will enable the boys to be well trained and well equipped before they travel. This is a platform to launch great sporting careers and an avenue to gain international recognition if they do well at the championship in Hungary. We want especially those living in the coastal areas to see that it’s not only about paddling but it can be a profession,” Hon. Wussah explained.
