Opeele blasts Duncan over UEFA license claims

Assistant Coach of the national Under 17 team, Isaac 'Opeele' Boateng, has accused Hearts of Oak head coach David Duncan of lying about issues related to UEFA coaching license certification some weeks ago. Duncan is reported to have stated that there is no coach in Ghana who can boast of a UEFA license or certificate.

"Take it from me no coach in Ghana here has the UEFA license whether grade A, B or even C and it will even surprise you that it was only myself, and Coach Osam Duodu who had some stints with UEFA. At the time I represented Ghana and Osam represented The Gambia,” Duncan is reported to have said.

Boateng, however, told Kumasi-based Metro FM that Duncan does not know what he is saying; accusing the ex-Black Starlets head coach of lying.

He said: "Duncan is not telling the truth. Nana Agyemang, formerly of Eleven Wise possesses a UEFA license B certificate. Besides, after playing football in European leagues, any player is guaranteed a UEFA license B if the player decides to move into coaching so our players like C.K Akonnor and the likes all have such certificates. So Duncan does not know what he is talking about.”

The former Tema Youth head coach also told Metro FM that most players with experience of playing in top European leagues are eligible to take UEFA License A courses and beyond, citing the likes of ex-Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah as an example.

He said: “Even former Black Stars skipper Stephen Appiah is eligible to do a higher course than the UEFA License B after playing actively in Europe just like Mohammed Gargo.

They all do not need to do the license B certificate courses. They will go to different level after their careers are over. It's like pursuing accounting in the university. When you want to do the ACCA (professional chartered accountancy) course you don't partake in the part one, but move to the one above it.”
