Narh to fight Malik for C16M in December

The Prince and Baseline Promotions and Sports Network of the United Kingdom have set Friday, December 6, 2002, for the long- awaited fight between Raymond Narh, National Super Featherweight Champion and Malik Jabir, National Super Bantamweight Champion at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Ike "Bazooka" Quartey, former WBA Welterweight Champion and Alhaji Amanor a boxing enthusiast and philanthropist offered 2,000 U.S dollars bait, with each contributing half of the amount for the fight.

Mr. Alfred Martey, Manager of Prince and Baseline Promotions told GNA Sports in interview that the bout would have taken place before December but the featherweight champion is set to embark on a training tour between now and November hence the December date.

Mr. Martey said the camps of the two boxers have agreed on the date and "everything is set for the long-awaited show down".

He said the two boxers are scheduled to sign a contract to this effect at a press conference, prior to the bout.

The promoter said the decision to change the venue from the Globe Cinema to the Accra Sports Stadium is to enable more fans to patronise the fight.

He said apart from the Narh-Malik fight, Aryittey Powers would also defend his Welterweight title against George Amuzu in another title match-up.

When GNA Sports contacted Mr. Al Hamilton, Manager of Narh, he said the fight could only come on if the 2000 dollars is deposited with the GBA or any bank and the fight sanctioned by the national boxing body.

"It's time to settle the controversy surrounding these two boxers and we are going to use Jabir as a Christmas gift and continue with the Bukom tradition by beating all opponents from there," Hamilton said.

Contrary to comments that Narh's performance against his Togolese

opponent Kojo Gbossou was not impressive in his last fight, Mr. Hamilton said he was very happy with his boy's showing because Gbossou was a welterweight boxer, a division higher than that of Narh's.

Mr Hamilton said his boxer would be leaving for London early October to prepare diligently for the fight, which would be his first defence of the title he won after beating Smith Odoom.
