Exclusive: Desailly turns down Ghana job

Ghanaian-born former French international Marcel Desailly failed to reach an agreement with the Ghana Football Association to take over as Black Stars new coach, Ghana Sports can exclusively reveal.

According to reports in the Ghanaian media, Ghana FA executives held meeting with the ex France captain over taking the place of James Kwesi Appiah who could be sacked.

Desailly reportedly told officials he would like to come with an entirely new technical team but the Ghana Football Association wanted him to maintain assistant coach Maxwell Konadu.

GFA officials are prepared to axe Kwesi Appiah and install a new coach even though 2014 World Cup qualifiers are in just a fortnight.

A section of the local media is also reporting if the FA fail to find a suitable coach to handle the team, Kwesi Appiah would be asked to go on a course abroad while assistant Konadu would be promoted to head coach.

Ghana Sports reported in February Serbian Milovan Rajevac who coached the Black Stars in the 2010 World Cup was in talks with the GFA over a possible return but the 59-year-old has squashed any rumours linking him with a return stating he has no plans to return.

Kwesi Appiah's fractured relationship with the Ayew brothers has also contributed to doubts over his future.

However, he is expected to take charge of the WC qualifier against Sudan in two weeks time.
