RTU cannot escape relegation – Captain Hassan

Real Tamale United captain, Hassan Mohammed says his struggling side cannot avoid relegation this season.

The ‘Pride of the North’ are pegged at the bottom of Ghana Premier League table and are yet to win a game this season. R.T.U will need something miraculous to beat the drop with only 5 points in the 17 matches old league, even winning 10 of the remaining 13 matches is not a guarantee to stay up at the end of the season.

And Hassan, who captained RTU to qualify back to the Premier League last season from the second tier league has all but condemned the side to a swift return to Division One League football next season saying the team cannot survive relegation due to the fact that, the players themselves have given up.

“I’m sad that after helping the team qualify back to the elite division of Ghana football which was not easy, we are going back to relegation. It’s sad but most of the players have already given up hopes in the chances of the team staying up in the league. But as the skipper of the side, I’m most highly disappointed,” Hassan told GBC Ura Radio Sports in Bolgatanga.

The former Accra Hearts of Oak defender points at poor management of the club as the root cause of RTU’s current predicament.

“The problem of this team is about the management system with no motivations for the playing body but rather unfulfilled promises ever since the team came back to the Premier League,” Hassan Mohammed lamented.

He cautioned: “Therefore until management change their attitudes of not motivating players, the team will always find itself in such a bad situation. From the look of our form, I do not personally see the possibility of us surviving relegation this season.”
