Massive clear-out to hit Black Stars

Ghana’s squad will undergo massive changes before the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Sudan next month.

Head coach Kwesi Appiah and the technical team will not invite players whose commitment levels at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations were below expectations.

Appiah’s technical report submitted to the Ghana FA on why the Black Stars failed to win a fifth title, highlighted that some players could not punch above their weight.

This has forced the management and technical team team to reconsider the future of some players.

“Up to the time that we played the two friendly against Egypt and Tunisia nobody was in doubt at all about the commitment of the players but as the competition rolled out in the first two games, it was then an opportunity to assess the level each player and this was the review we did,” Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi said.

“Some people did well in the first game and that was it. Some players played two games and then went to sleep and I think the national team deserves better than that.

“We are very excited about at the performances of the young players who got the opportunity some of them debutants and I think that with encouragement we’ll get more out of them”.
