Appiah, Jordan, others pledge support for Black Challenge

Former Black
Stars captain Stephen Appiah is leading a host of current and former national
team stars pledging cash and other incentives to support the Black Challenge,
the Ghana national amputee soccer team.
The Black
Challenge are billed to play at the Amputee Football World Cup scheduled for
Russia later this year and the formal launch of preparations towards
participation in the October 5-16 tournament came off at the La-Bawaleshie
Presby Park in Accra where many of the nation’s leading footballers, past and
present, convene every week for the East Legon Monday Stars soccer game.
“I feel
privileged and humbled by this rare opportunity to officially launch Ghana’s
participation in the 31st Amputee Football World Cup in Russia
in the presence of la crème de la crème of football.
“We believe
the best place to launch a football programme is the football pitch where the
real action is. Indeed, your presence here gives me renewed hope that whatever
we have undertaken to do would see the light of day,” said Ghana Amputee
Football President Francis Adjetey Sowah, recently crowned the SWAG Chairman of
the Year.
On hand to
pledge support was Stephen Appiah, Jordan Ayew, Kwame Ayew, Nii Odartey
Lamptey, Augustine Ahinful, Sulley Muntari, Christian Atsu among others.
“We must be
proud of the Black Challenge because despite their physical challenges, they
are striving do something useful for the nation. I will convince many of my
footballer friends to give them all the support we can for them to bring glory
to Ghana as we have also done with the Black Stars,” Tornado Appiah told 90
