FA Cup offers chance for redemption

For a host of big spending premiership sides, the FA Cup offers them one of football's major prizes as the season draws to a close.

Hearts of Oak, AshantiGold, Medeama and Berekum Chelsea have all underachieved in the elite league that left Asante Kotoko to clinch the title and savour the celebrations.

However, beginning Friday, the MTN FA Cup returns with the Round of 16 fixtures with matches lined up till next week.

The FA Cup, certainly represents the only chance for redemption for clubs like Hearts and Medeama while for Kotoko, it's a route to claim a season's double.

Kotoko, losing finalist in the previous competition are hopeful of righting the wrongs of the past when they were beaten in the finals by FC Nania, who themselves were eliminated in the first round.

The competition for places in the quarter-finals of the Cup competition will be very keen as six Division One sides make up the 16-team lists with the remaining ten, all premier league clubs.

Maxwell Konadu's new league champions travel to the Tema Stadium to face Amidaus Professionals on Saturday as Kotoko hope to reach the quarters.

AshantiGold have endured a difficult time in the league recently but will be up for it when they play at home in the all-premiership contest against Wa All Stars on Sunday.

Division One campaigners, Elmina Sharks will test the mettle of C.K. Akunnor's Hearts of Oak, who have the FA Cup as the only chance of landing silverware this season.
