Jawula demands Berekum Chelsea name change

Member of the CAF Inter Club Committee, Lepowura Mohammed Nuru Deen Jawula has told PRAVDA SPORTS 93.5 that owners and management of Berekum Chelsea must consider a name change after their successful outing in the CAF Champions League at the weekend.

The Ghana champions handed former African champions Raja Casablanca of Morocco a 5-0 thrashing last Sunday in the first leg of their CAF Champions League round of 16 tie in Berekum. The victory has projected the Ghanaian club to the rest of the world.

And Lepowura MND Jawula, himself a former GFA Chairman expects an indigenous name for the club to project Ghana.

"I think whatever happens with Chelsea (in the Champions’ League), we can only say it is good for Ghana. The only thing that is not good for Ghana perhaps is the name. People say Chelsea of Ghana and other people are wondering if it’s the same team in London,” Jawula told PRAVDA SPORTS on 93.5 FM in Accra.

He added: “Usually this is the time when the teams do better, it will be good enough if we adopted names that are more indigenous and that could promote our country Ghana."
