Ghana Play Liberia In International Friendly

Francis Adjetey Sowah-President of the Amputee Football Federation of Africa. A 20-man contingent of the Ghana National Amputee Football Team, the Black Challenge left Accra on Sunday to Liberia to play their Liberian counterparts, the Lone Stars, in an international friendly.

The match, organized to mark the centennial anniversary of the Liberian Armed Forces, would be played in honor of President Ellen Sirleaf Johnson, President of Liberia on Tuesday, February, 14 on artificial turf.

The Ghanaian contingent was led by Mr. Francis Adjetey Sowah, President of the Amputee Football Federation who also doubles as the leader of Ghana Amputee Football Federation, and is expected to return on Feb. 15.

Ghana see the match as a revenge for the defeat they suffered in the hands of their Liberian counterparts during the 3rd Cup of African Nations for Amputee Football (CANAF 2011) held in Accra in November 2011.

After taking a commanding 2-0 lead in the first half, Ghana conceded three quick goals from Liberia and had to fight back to send the game into extra time and subsequently to penalty shoot-outs, which Ghana lost 4-2.

With that defeat still fresh in their minds, the Black Challenge have a herculean challenge to beat the Lone Stars to appease Ghanaians whose hearts they broke in Accra.

Some members of the Universal Supporters Union are joining the team in Monrovia to cheer them on to victory. They would be aided by the Ghanaian community in Liberia.
