Osumanu Akaba back for good

Osumanu Akaba is raring to go and achieve all his boxing dreams and says there is no looking back again. Akaba was back in the ring for the first time in two years when defeating Beninois Theodore Lokossou to claim the Interim WBO Africa Super Featherweight belt in the main bout of last October 15’s Only the Strong Boxing extravaganza in Accra.

Now Akaba says he is going up in pursuit of the childhood dream to be a boxing world champ.

“I am glad to be back and with a win, it’s important . This is a new beginning and I’m promising my fans to watch out because I’m focused and determined to get to the top. I want to be a world champion, no way back now,” Osumanu Akaba said.

Despite claiming victory, many Ghanaian boxing connoisseurs at ringside were adamant that Osumanu Akaba struggled to secure the win. Despite taking a lot of punishment from Akaba, the fight was only stopped after Lokossou failed to answer the bell for round seven.

But Emmanuel Tagoe, trainer of the new champion maintains everything went according to plan.

“I don’t waste my time. If I think that Akaba cannot make it (become world champion), I will not waste my time. Before the fight, I said on Radio Gold that the opponent will not last 8 rounds. Akaba was only fighting for the first time after two years so I wanted him to give the fans some more action.

“The next promotion on December 26, you will see a different and better show. We want to keep him busy because within the next 6 to 8 months, I expect him to fight for a world title,” Coach Tagoe alias Asiki told ALL SPORTS.
