Achimota Accra Open Golf Tournament

The Achimota Golf Club will from Thursday 27th October to Sunday 30th October, 2011 host the 61st edition of the most prestigious Accra Open Golf Tournament.
The Accra Open Golf Tournament, which was first played at the Achimota Golf Club in 1950, will bring together professional and amateur golfers from all over the country as well as the African continent.

According to a statement released by the Achimota Golf club, this year’s competition will witness the highest participation with 130 amateurs and 55 professionals confirming their interest in the competition.

In addition golfers from Cote D’Ivoire, Gabon, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal and Togo have also registered to take part in the four day competition.
The tournament is one of the major Golf competitions that preceded Ghana’s Independence on 6th March, 1957.

According to a statement from the club, the upcoming edition of the Accra Open championship will be special.

“It (the Accra Open) being the 61st edition is very special. The organisation sponsorship is different, the course, the way it will play is going to be different.

“The international contribution from golfers is going to make it different and we are getting local golfers from all almost every golf club in the country to participate.

“It is just not about Achimota, it is for golfers or golf as a whole.

The overall winner in the Pros division takes GH¢10,000.00.

The Accra Open is also restricted to only players with Handicap 14 and below for men and Handicap 24 and below for ladies.

Despite the handicap limitations set, the following clubs have registered the under listed number of golfers to participate in the competition.

There will also be a Special Youth Competition which will involve 16 Youths from across the country. The Amateurs and Youth will via for trophies and other consolidated prizes whiles 15 Pros will via for the prize money at stake.
