Yobo seeks end to Black Stars’ dominance over Eagles

Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo has promised to make the best out of the international friendly match against their arch rival, the Black Stars of Ghana on August 9 in London.

Yobo said that the present Super Eagles team were going through a re-building process and as a result he cannot tell the kind of performance the team would put up against the Ghanaians.

He however, pointed out that they will not allow the Black Stars defeat them this time around as they are looking forward to giving Nigerians a positive result.

The former Everton of England captain said mixing the home-based players with their foreign-based compatriots in friendlies like the London tie to build a new team is a new development and will give the home-based players an opportunity to prove their worth.

“We are going to make the best out of the crucial international friendly match (against Ghana). The facts remain that we are still building a new team which comprises of home and foreign based players and which is an opportunity for the local players to prove their worth.

“We are not going to accept another defeat from Ghana. The last time we met, Ghana defeated us by 4-1 which nobody ever imagined. It did not end there because at the last Africa Cup of Nations in Angola, they defeated us again. Though we played better than them but the victory meant a lot and we are not going to allow it n August 9 in London.”

Ahead of the Nations Cup qualifier against Madagascar in Antananarivo, Yobo said the friendly match against Ghana would allow the players know themselves better and applying the pattern their coach wants them to play and also try to do something new before thinking about the match against Guinea.

“Concerning the Madagascar match, I think first thing first. We are here for a friendly game and trying to know ourselves, playing the pattern our coaches want us to play and just trying to do something new. We should start from the friendly game, the Madagascar match is still next month, let’s see how the friendly match goes and we can move forward”. Said Yobo
