MTN receives FA Cup

Accra, July 20, GNA - MTN Ghana, headline sponsors of the revived FA Cup competition, were on Wednesday presented with the trophy which will be at stake, when Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Division One side, Nania FC clash a= t the Accra Sports Stadium in the finals of the competition.

The ceremony forms part of the FA Cup Committee's plans to grant the headline sponsors the opportunity to be part of the events leading to the finals of the competition as well as create awareness on the match among th= e sporting public in a bid to increase attendance at the stadium on Sunday. Lepowura Alhaji Mohamed N. Jawula, Chairman of the FA Cup Committee said though the FA Cup competition was returning to the soccer scene after years of absence, it had produced the best brand of game to fans. He said the competition had also enjoyed good sportsmanship and some level of quality officiating but bemoaned the low patronage at the stadium during matches.

Lepowura Jawula noted that the competition, which started in October 2011 will have a perfect climax on Sunday, as they look forward to a memorable final between the two sides.

Richard Acheampong, General Manager in charge of Marketing and Communications at MTN, said the qualification of Nania FC to the finals of the competition attests to the fact that it had been a competitive event. He said MTN Ghana is looking forward to an improved competition next year since the necessary platform has now been created for the future. Acheampong said his outfit is ready to support the development and promotion of football at all levels and will remain committed to the competition in the coming years.

Stephen Appiah, former captain of the Black Stars and an MTN Icon, revealed that he will be at the stadium to witness the game on Sunday and called on the two sides to give off their best. The trophy has been on a tour for the past days and will now head to the Accra Sports Stadium for exhibition.
