Tactical discipline ensured Meteors victory - Appiah

Kumasi July 12, GNA - The head coach of Ghana's Under-23 side, the Black Meteors, Akwasi Appiah has commended his charges for the tactical discipline and commitment they put on display to ensure their 2-0 convincing victory against their Nigerian counterparts in the All Africa Games qualifying match at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi at the week-end.
Coach Appiah said even though the Nigerian 93Dream Team Five" had their own ideas to frustrate the home side the Meteors players' showed their resilience and stuck to game plan and strategies mapped up by the technical team.
He therefore commended the team for ably defending the national flag and ensuring that Ghana qualified for the All Africa Games scheduled for Maputo.
The meteors lost the first leg 1-3 in Nigeria and with the second leg victory have thus qualified through the 93away goal rule."
Coach Appiah told the GNA Sports in Kumasi on Monday that, he was confident that given the team's solid performance it has the capability of winning the ultimate in Mozambique if they are given a comprehensive preparation and the needed motivation.
The technical team was compelled to come up with a plan "following the absence of most of the regular players, and that made them to work around the clock to find worthy substitutes, he added.
Daniel Opare, Jordan Ayew, Jonathan Mensah, Andre Ayew and Opoku Agyemang, amongst others, who were expected to carry the nation's flag high in the match, were absent either due to injury or Club commitment.
