Mumuni, Clottey, Toure for SWAG Premiership player of the year

Accra, June 28, GNA - The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has nominated Mumuni Abubakari of New Edubiase FC, Emmanuel Clottey of Berekum Chelsea and Ahmed Toure of Kumasi Asante Kotoko for the 2010/11 Premiership Player of the Year Award.

A statement issued by William Dodzi Ezah, General Secretary of SWAG, said the Association will announce one of the three nominated players as the ultimate winner of the Premiership Player of the Year category.

The 36th MTN/SWAG Awards Night will take place on Saturday, July 2, at the Banquet Hall, State House, Accra.

It said that Association will also confer honours on George Osei and Grace Afriyie as Male and Female Golfers of the Year 2010 respectively.

The statement added that Mr Fred Pappoe, Vice Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee will also receive a Special Award for his contribution to the success of the Black Stars.

It said that Mr Pappoe contributed to the success and exploits of the Black Stars at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

The statement said the nominations sums up the total number of award winners to 36, made up of sports men and women, administrators and corporate bodies that have contributed to the development of sports in the country.
