LOYA national swimming championship opens in Kumasi

Accra, June 26, GNA - The Ghana Swimming Association (GSA) is organising the second "National Swimming Open Championship" at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), in Kumasi from Saturday June 25 96 Sunday June 26 at 0700 hours daily.

A statement issued by Williams Kyei, Secretary General of GSA and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra at the weekend said the championship aimed at unearthing talents and raise awareness of competitive swimming in Ghana.

It would also justify swimmers from the Volta, Central and Ashanti Regions, who are due to participate in the upcoming National Unity Games scheduled for July 17- July 27 July in Accra.

Participants' eligible to compete spans 10-17 years and would undertake Backstroke, Freestyle, Breaststroke and Butterfly stroke in the boys and girls categories.

The two-day Kumasi event is open to all swimmers and swimming clubs across the country and registration is free.

Prospective swimmers can register at the KNUST Pool side and the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi from Monday June 20 to Friday June 24 June between 0800 96 1500 hours daily.

The championship is sponsored by Loya Milk, and supported by the National Sports Authority, Indomie, Zoomlion and Safina Mineral Water.
