Rahim Ayew fights for Lierse SK starting role in pre-season

Ghana midfielder Rahim Ayew has joined his Belgian top flight side Lierse SK in pre-season fighting for a permanent place.

The versatile player played 62 minutes on Saturday as the Yellow Blacks beat city rivals and fourth division side Lyra 5-0 in their 4th pre-season match.

His position is midfield was taken over by Lance Davids.

Ayew began Friday’s test match against Cercle Brugge in midfielder but was later assigned the right-back role.

“Last season, we struggled to escape and this time we want to compete for a place in Europe. I like the pre-season so far and hope to have sealed a starting line-up slot before our season opener. I’m fit and so let’s see what God has for me,” Ayew told GHANAsoccernet.com

The first son of Abedi Pele joined the Jupiler League side in January after a frustrating spell at Egyptian side Zamalek.
