Stars must make Ghana proud — Guinness

THE senior national football team, the Black Stars, have been urged to do all they can to win honours for Ghana at CAN 2002 scheduled to begin this Saturday in Bamako, Mali.

This call was made in a message of goodwill from Guinness Ghana Ltd., official sponsor of the Black Stars and sent by the Managing Director, Mr Devlin Hainsworth yesterday in Accra.

While congratulating the youthful players who constitute the new-look Black Stars, Mr Hainsworth reminded them of the challenging weeks ahead, competing against other strong teams from the continent.

The Guinness MD, however, expressed the hope that the national team would perform excellently to lift the Africa Cup which has eluded Ghana since 1982 when the Black Stars last won it.

"As your official sponsor, Guinness has done its duty to bring out the power in you; and the nation passionately expects you to demonstrate your inner strength by conquering all opposition in Mali", Mr Hainsworth added.

Guinness Ghana recently gave ?450 million to the Black Stars for preparation towards the Nations Cup in Mali.

The Black Stars will face the Atlas Lions of Morocco in their Group B opening match on Monday.
