Kuffour Miss Out On African player of the year?

Lens striker El Hadji Diouf has beaten off competition from Samuel Eto'o and Samuel Kuffour to be named African Footballer of the Year.

The Senegalese international striker was rewarded for his goalscoring feats, that have seen him propel his country to their maiden World Cup finals, in yesterday's ceremony as he was awarded the prestigious African trophy.

The Lens striker, whose goals have also kept his club side on top of the league in the French title race, fully lived up to his rather bizarre nickname of 'The Serial Killer' last year when he fired his country into this summer's World Cup.

El-Diouf scored back-to-back hat-tricks during his side's 4-0 win against Namibia and 3-0 victory against Algeria, as Senegal saw off some of the giants of African football to make football's greatest showpiece event.
The 20-year-old former Sochaux and Rennes star beat Real Mallorca's Cameroon midfielder Eto'o and Bayern Munich's Ghanaian central defender Kuffour to win the award.
