The 5th Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament was launched at the Achimota Golf Club on Tuesday, November 4, 2026, with stakeholders gathering to announce details of the event.
The tournament, organised in honour of President John Dramani Mahama, is scheduled for November 21, 2026. The President is expected to perform the ceremonial tee-off to officially open the competition.
The fifth edition will be held under the theme, “Driving National Growth Through Leadership, Partnership and Golf.”

The tournament is strictly for amateur golfers, with 140 participants expected to compete. They will include government officials, business leaders, captains of industry, CEOs and board chairpersons.
Speaking to the media at the launch, Achimota Golf Club Board of Trustees member Mike Aggrey said the tournament had made a significant economic impact over the years by bringing industry players and government officials together to explore business opportunities.
“First of all, I recall vividly that in 2018, in Kumasi, it was almost like a Cabinet meeting because there were probably in the region of about 16 ministers of state present, alongside a lot of industry leaders. During that event, I remember that a lot of deals were struck because people were able to meet directly with ministers of state, put projects together, and make proposals without going through secretariats and so forth.
“I cannot pinpoint names because I believe it’s not an industry secret, but I do know that it has contributed quite heavily to the economic development of this country,” he said.
Tournament coordinator Francis Andoh said the event would create opportunities for golfers across the country to showcase their potential and connect with industry players.
“Held in honour of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, the tournament will bring together golfers, business leaders, public officials and international golfers for a celebration of sportsmanship, fellowship and shared purpose. Our commitment extends beyond the course.
“Through the Head of State Foundation, we will seek to support community outreach and create opportunities for young people through golf. We invite our partners and participants to help turn this commitment into meaningful support for those who need it.
“To our friends in the media, we count on your support to share the tournament’s story and its wider community purpose,” he said.
Andoh also expressed gratitude to the sponsors supporting the fifth edition of the tournament.
“We also thank our sponsors: First National Bank, Bost Energies, NPA, The Luckiest, Aphro, Samsung, Myla Homes, The Palms by Egesls, Guinness Ghana, TGTS Africa, Coca-Cola, Panosia, Amber Coco, Gevans Natural Minerals Water, Danny List Foundation, Sunlodge Hotel, La Villa Aphro, Happy Box Experience Gift, JD’s Fruit Juice and Nguvu Mining Limited,” he added.
