Winnifred Mawudeku, Director of the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, has opened up on the deteriorated state of the facility before she assumed management.
She said the establishment had been neglected for several years.
Mawudeku said she initially believed the facility could be revived when she expressed interest in managing it, but her assessment after taking over revealed a much worse situation.
“I like to describe the place as dead. And so from the outside, it looked dead. And you want to come and put in an effort to resurrect it.
“But coming in, I realised that the dead body was decomposing. So prampram had been run down over the years,” she said.

She recalled first expressing interest in the facility during a meeting with the late former Minister of Youth and Sports, E.T.Mensah, in Washington, where she raised concerns about its deteriorating condition.
According to her, she had previously observed the center’s poor state, moving around it and opening doors without anyone questioning her presence.
Despite the challenges, Mawudeku said she remained determined to turn the facility around, expressing confidence in her ability to restore its fortunes.
“For a lot of people who have worked with me over the years, they know that Winifred is capable of turning things around,” she added.
