Ghana international Nicholas Opoku is set to work under a new head coach at UD Las Palmas following the Spanish club’s appointment of Albert Sánchez on a two-year contract.

The Segunda División side announced the appointment on Thursday, October 29, confirming that Sánchez will lead the team until June 30, 2028, as the club looks to begin a new chapter under his leadership.

“Albert Sánchez Saura (April 1, 1987, Esplugues de Llobregat, Barcelona) will be the new coach of UD Las Palmas after the agreement reached between all parties, which will link him to the yellow entity until June 30, 2028.

“UD Las Palmas welcomes Albert Sánchez and wishes him the greatest success in this new stage at the head of the yellow team,” the Spanish club said in an official statement.

The appointment marks a new chapter for Opoku, who joined the Spanish outfit in August and will now have the opportunity to impress under Sánchez as he seeks to establish himself in the team.

The Ghanaian centre-back made an encouraging start to life at Las Palmas, making his debut in Tuesday’s Copa del Rey encounter against RSD Alcalá, where the club secured an impressive victory.

At 29, Opoku will be hoping to build on that promising introduction and become an important figure in the squad under the new coach. His defensive experience and physical presence could prove valuable as Las Palmas pursue their objectives for the season.
