Ghana’s Black Starlets finished fourth at the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship after losing 2-0 to hosts Burkina Faso in the third-place play-off.
The defeat ended Ghana’s campaign without a podium finish after they missed out on the final following a 1-0 semi-final loss to Côte d’Ivoire.
The Black Starlets had impressed in the group stage, finishing top of Group A unbeaten with seven points from three matches.
They opened their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Togo before beating Benin 3-1 and drawing 0-0 with Burkina Faso.
However, they were unable to carry that form into the knockout stage, suffering consecutive defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso.
The fourth-place finish adds to a disappointing end to the campaign for Ghana, who had hoped to secure a place at the 2027 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
