Former Black Stars captain Andre Ayew has offered a glimpse into the love story between his father, Ghanaian football legend Abedi Pele, and his mother, Maha Ayew, revealing how their relationship dates back to his father’s teenage years.
On the Obi One Podcast, hosted by former Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel, Ayew explained that his mother had been part of his father's life long before he became one of Africa's greatest footballers.
"My mum followed my dad from when he was about 16 or 17, so she witnessed his journey from the early days of Ghana football to becoming who he is today," Ayew said.
His account highlights the years Maha spent alongside Abedi as he progressed from a promising young footballer in Ghana to an internationally celebrated star.

Abedi began his career with Real Tamale United and went on to play for several clubs across Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, including Marseille, where he won the UEFA Champions League in 1993.
He also helped Ghana win the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations and earned the African Footballer of the Year award three times, in 1991, 1992 and 1993.
Andre, born in France in December 1989, followed his father into professional football and became one of Ghana's most prominent players, captaining the Black Stars and representing the country at multiple FIFA World Cups and Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
His younger brother, Jordan Ayew, also became a Black Stars regular, continuing the family's deep connection with Ghanaian football.
