The Minority in Parliament has called on President John Dramani Mahama to dismiss the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, over issues relating to the 2026 FIFA World Cup visa scandal.
Addressing the public on October 7, 2026, the Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Youth and Sports Committee, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, noted that the allegations are serious and require thorough investigation.
He indicated that the removal of Yaw Ampofo Ankrah as the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) is not enough, as the Minority is demanding further action against all parties allegedly involved.
Assafuah challenges Sports Minister over NSA visa allegations
“The President has removed Yaw Ampofo Ankrah. We acknowledge that decision, but the public should not be made to believe that the removal of one official automatically answers every question arising from the document. The ministry's role remains. The GTA's role remains. The role of the NSA officials also remains.
"The role of Tribe Culture Fest remains. The role of individuals who allegedly collected or transmitted money remains. The role of those who prepared, approved, or transmitted institutional lists also remains, and the role of those who added names to official submissions remains,” he said.
The Minority called for Kofi Adams and Maame Efua to be stripped of their positions, alleging that they were involved in seeking visas for persons connected to the scandal.
Vincent Assafuah noted that his findings suggest that these officials are liable in the visa scandal and therefore cannot be left untouched.
“We therefore call for the immediate dismissal of Honorable Kofi Adams, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, and the immediate dismissal of the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority. Their continued stay in office in the face of the questions surrounding the roles of their respective institutions cannot be allowed to undermine public confidence in the investigation.
“The minister's role requires particular scrutiny because the ministry received an NSA request containing four names and subsequently transmitted an expanded list containing approximately 92 names to the United States Embassy. He cannot, he cannot escape liability,” he added.
Reports indicate that the visa fraud case involves more than $600,000 allegedly collected from prospective travellers who were seeking assistance with visa and travel arrangements ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ampofo Ankrah, alongside other NSA officials, has reportedly been questioned by security agencies as investigators seek to establish what happened.
