Carlos Queiroz has reportedly asked the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to make changes to the Black Stars’ backroom team before he puts pen to paper on his new contract.
 
The Portuguese coach has already returned to the helm of the Black Stars, with the GFA officially announcing on September 2, 2026, that it had reached an agreement with him for a new coaching mandate.
 
Queiroz has also begun preparations for Ghana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign and has named a 24-man squad for the upcoming matches against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, as well as the friendly against Morocco.
 
However, reports circulating in football circles suggest that the formalisation of his contract is being delayed by discussions over the composition of his technical team.

According to the reports, Queiroz wants greater control over his backroom staff and prefers to work with personnel of his own choosing.
 
The GFA, on the other hand, is understood to want some Ghanaian representation within the technical setup, potentially leading to changes in the current backroom structure.
 
The development could result in a major shake-up if the two sides fail to reach a compromise on the personnel who will work alongside the 73-year-old coach.
 
During Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, Queiroz worked with a backroom team that included John Paintsil, Desmond Ofei and Fatau Dauda.
 
The reports come as Queiroz prepares for his first competitive assignments of his second spell, with Ghana set to face Côte d’Ivoire on September 24 before hosting The Gambia on September 29, 2026.
