The government spent about $1.26 million to procure 2,922 tickets for Ghanaian supporters during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has disclosed.

Adams made the revelation when he appeared before Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

According to the minister, the tickets were procured for Ghana’s three group-stage matches against Panama, England and Croatia, with the largest allocation going to the clash against England.

Ghana purchased 948 tickets for the Panama game, 1,000 for England and 974 for Croatia.

How much was spent on Ghana’s three matches

For the Panama fixture, 100 Category 1 tickets had a FIFA face value of $450 each, but the final price rose to $495 after the permitted 10% administrative charge.

There were also 249 Supporter Premier tickets at $495 each, 199 Standard tickets at $418, 250 Value tickets at $154 and 150 Entry tickets at $66.

For the England game, the 1,000 tickets comprised 100 Category 1 tickets and 300 Supporter Premier tickets, each costing $660 after the 10% administrative charge. The 200 Standard tickets cost $473 each, while 250 Value tickets cost $242 and 150 Entry tickets cost $66.

The Croatia allocation of 974 tickets included 100 Category 1 and 306 Supporter Premium tickets at $550 each. Another 280 Standard tickets cost $440 each, 200 Value tickets cost $198, while 150 Entry tickets were listed at $66 each.

Why more tickets went to Ghanaians in the diaspora

Adams explained that the initial plan was to send about 800 supporters, with excess tickets to be distributed to other Ghanaians.

However, visa challenges meant more tickets were allocated to Ghanaians already living in the diaspora.

“The committee decided that we were not sending supporters to Canada. We were not officially going to send any supporters to Canada,” Adams said.

He added that tickets originally procured for the Canada fixture were consequently made available to Ghanaians in Canada and the wider diaspora, while supporters were sent to the United States for Ghana’s later matches.
