Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has backed Ghana's Black Princesses to make history at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Poland.

Adams visited the team at their camp ahead of Sunday's opening Group C match against Ecuador and assured the players of the government's support.

The minister also delivered a message from President John Dramani Mahama, who he said was closely following the team's preparations.

"I bring you greetings from the Office of the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, who is very aware of the task ahead of you," Adams said.

Ghana are making their eighth consecutive appearance at the tournament, but are yet to progress from the group stage.

Adams believes the Black Princesses now have an opportunity to go beyond their previous performances and challenge for the title.

"I believe it is your time now to market Ghana even better by reaching the final and bringing the cup home," he said.

The minister urged the players not to be intimidated by their opponents and encouraged them to trust the work done by the technical team.

"Don't be intimidated by any opponent. They don't play any better football than you. Have at the back of your mind what the technical team has taught you so you can go out there and exhibit that."

Ghana will face Ecuador on Sunday before playing Korea Republic and France in their other Group C matches.
