'Haram football' – Fans react to Queiroz's reappointment as Black Stars coach

Some football fans on social media have expressed mixed reactions to the reappointment of veteran gaffer Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed that Queiroz will remain in charge after agreeing to a fresh coaching mandate with the Portuguese tactician.

Queiroz's initial four-month contract ended last month following Ghana's participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, leaving his future uncertain amid reports of negotiations over a possible extension.

The GFA, however, announced on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, that an agreement had been reached, with his new spell set to begin during the upcoming international window.

In response, some fans expressed pessimism about the Portuguese manager's ability to lead Ghana to success in major international tournaments.

Many argued that his defensive style of play, described as “haram football,” as seen at the 2026 World Cup, is not sustainable in modern football and unlikely to deliver trophies.

However, others believe Queiroz remains the best option for the job, citing his experience and current circumstances. They urged him to tweak his tactics and improve the team's style of play.

Some also called on him to make a decisive decision regarding the future of Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew, following his underwhelming performances at the World Cup and his current clubless situation.
