Algeria secured a historic third-place finish at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after defeating hosts Morocco 3-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Morocco took the lead in the 37th minute through Kautar Azraf, who finished to give the Atlas Lionesses an early advantage.

Algeria, however, refused to give up and were rewarded in the 83rd minute when Lina Boussaha found the equaliser.

Neither side could find a winner before the final whistle, sending the contest to a penalty shootout.

Algeria held their nerve from the spot to win 3-2 and claim their first-ever WAFCON podium finish.
