Black Queens forward Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah has expressed frustration following the team's inability to secure automatic qualification for the 2027 Women's World Cup after a quarter-final exit at WAFCON 2026.

The women's national team suffered a painful 2-1 defeat to Malawi and will now go through the long route of featuring in an intercontinental play-off to determine their World Cup fate.

After the quarter-final loss, the team released a statement over unpaid allowances, which the Ministry of Sports and Recreation rebuffed, showing receipts of payments.

The Black Queens responded again with another statement, crowning a back-and-forth between the two entities.

"Some chapters don’t end the way you imagined, but they still change you," wrote Boye-Hlorkah on Instagram.

"This tournament tested us in more ways than one. There were highs, lows, moments of frustration, moments of joy and lessons I’ll carry with me long after leaving camp," she added.

Boye-Hlorkah scored the opener in the 2-1 defeat to Malawi, her only goal of the tournament. The Nottingham Forest player had hoped to play a more leading role in the team.

"Personally, I had to find my way through it too. It didn’t begin how I wanted, but I kept going, kept believing and kept fighting until the end," she continued.

"That’s football. That’s life. Proud to wear this shirt. Proud of this group. Grateful for every person who supported us through it all."

Meanwhile, following the team's defeat to Malawi, the Black Queens had to beat Ivory Coast to keep their World Cup dream alive.

"Our World Cup journey isn’t over. There’s still a door open — and we’ll keep fighting to walk through it. For now, thank you, WAFCON. We continue," concluded Boye-Hlorkah.
