Ahead of the commencement of the 2026/2027 football season, several Ghanaian players are scrambling to find clubs as they are currently without teams.

Most of these players saw their contracts expire, with clubs unwilling to offer renewals due to unimpressive performances.

It was expected that those who featured in the 2026 FIFA World Cup would have secured new clubs by now, but that is yet to happen as their agents race against time to find suitable offers. None of the players have any intention of retiring from the game.

Thomas Partey

Partey departed Villarreal in the summer of 2026 after his contract expired, having failed to secure a regular role under head coach Marcelino.

The 32-year-old midfielder, who joined the Yellow Submarine after leaving Arsenal, made just 18 appearances across all competitions, totaling 943 minutes.

Reports indicate Marcelino informed the club’s hierarchy that Partey does not feature in his long-term plans. He is said to be engaging with clubs for a possible move.

Jordan Ayew

The Black Stars captain left Leicester City at the end of the 2025/2026 season after the club confirmed he was among 10 senior players set to depart following relegation to English League One.

The 34-year-old joined Leicester from Crystal Palace in August 2024 for £5 million, rising to £8 million with add-ons. He scored six goals in 42 appearances during the 2025/26 campaign. Reports suggest Ayew has attracted interest from clubs in Europe and Saudi Arabia.

Abdul Mumin

Mumin is a free agent after leaving Rayo Vallecano this summer following several seasons with the Spanish club.

The defender had established himself as an important member of the squad but has publicly denied reports linking him to other clubs. His next destination remains unclear as the transfer window continues.

André Dede Ayew

Dutch side NAC Breda released Ayew after the final match of the 2025/2026 season. Despite his pedigree and leadership, Ayew struggled to make a consistent impact.

His brightest moment came with a goal against Feyenoord, a rare highlight in an otherwise disappointing campaign. Currently, there are no reports of a possible move for the player.

Joseph Aidoo

Aidoo is a free agent after parting ways with Celta Vigo upon the expiration of his contract. He completed a notable multi-year stint in Spain, making roughly 150 appearances for the club.

The experienced centre-back has also represented the Black Stars internationally.

Kwasi Sibo

Sibo left Real Oviedo at the end of June 2026, when his contract expired, closing a remarkable chapter after helping the club rise to Spain’s top flight.
The midfielder is now a free agent, with growing interest from Saudi Arabia and a lucrative contract reportedly on the table.

He joined Oviedo from SD Amorebieta in 2024 and played a key role in their promotion. His performances also earned him a maiden call-up to the Black Stars. Sibo has disclosed interest from clubs in both England and Saudi Arabia.

Caleb Ekuban

Ekuban became a free agent after contract renewal talks with Genoa failed.
Since joining in 2021, he made 117 appearances across competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists.

At the international level, Ekuban has made 13 appearances for the Black Stars, scoring three goals.

Hakim Sulemana

St Mirren manager Craig McLeish confirmed that the club’s pursuit of Sulemana collapsed after a breakdown in personal talks, leaving him a free agent.

The Scottish Premiership side had hoped to secure the highly-rated Ghana U-20 winger on a free transfer this summer.

Sulemana’s representatives are now exploring other options as St Mirren turns its focus to alternative candidates before the transfer window closes.
