Legendary Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan has disclosed that his relationship with his manager Sammy Anim Addo has faced some tough moments during his career.

Speaking at Anim’s 50th birthday celebration, the former Sunderland striker noted that his manager has been a close friend since their school days, which has sustained their bond over the years.

He revealed that he contributed to Anim’s tertiary education, after which Anim became his manager, handling controversies surrounding his career.

“He understands football and we schooled together, so we gelled. He hadn’t gone to GIMPA, so we all helped him finish his tertiary education and then he came to hold me. We’ve been together since then. There are times when we faced false allegations in the media, and he dealt with them all,” Gyan said during the occasion.

Gyan went on to highlight some rough moments in their relationship, where disagreements based on hearsay left them at loggerheads for years.

He noted that it took the intervention of Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku and other personalities to resolve their differences, and they are now back together.

“We have fought a lot. Sometimes I say I’ll beat you, and he responds, ‘Do you want to beat your senior brother?’ and I end it there. It’s emotional, but I have to say it to encourage us.

"Three years ago, we fought again and ceased talking for two years. He never stepped foot in my house, just because of hearsay, and I went through a lot. Later, we came back together. The GFA President also helped with the process, and now things are going well,” Gyan shared.
