The immediate past President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah, has fulfilled his promise to award a cash reward to Amadu Mohammed for winning a bronze medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Mensah had pledged GH₵15,000 for a gold medal, GH₵10,000 for a silver medal, and GH₵5,000 for a bronze medal.

Amadu lost in the men’s 55kg semi-final bout to Australia’s Jye Dixon by split decision. However, reaching the semi-final stage guaranteed him at least a bronze medal, securing Ghana’s only medal in boxing at the Games.

The former GOC President honored his promise by presenting GH₵5,000 in cash to the boxer, along with food items as part of the package.

He admonished the 21-year-old to continue working hard in amateur boxing and to target similar accomplishments at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, making the nation proud.

Amadu expressed his utmost appreciation for the kind gesture and presented his bronze medal to Ben Nunoo Mensah for him to admire.

The gesture forms part of efforts to encourage and motivate young boxers to give their best in various competitions and ultimately win more medals.
