Former Ghana international Dominic Adiyiah has raised questions about the role played by late coach Sam Arday in a decision that prevented him from travelling with Feyenoord to a tournament in France during the 2006/07 Ghana Premier League season.

Adiyiah says he has never been certain whether the decision was made by Arday or came from the club’s board, but the experience left him deeply disappointed with the academy.

“What they did to me I don’t know if it was intentional from coach Addy or the order came from the board of Feyenoord,” he revealed.

The former Black Stars forward was one of the promising youngsters at Feyenoord during the mid-2000s, with Arday serving as a key figure in the academy’s technical setup.

Adiyiah says Feyenoord had selected several players for the France trip, including Harrison Afful, Astu, Solomon and Ernest Asante.

However, shortly before the squad was due to leave, he was instead sent to South Africa after SuperSport United reportedly expressed interest in signing him.

He believes the decision was deliberate because Feyenoord knew a strong showing in France could attract other clubs and lead to a transfer.

Adiyiah also recalls the role of a Feyenoord official named George, whom he says handled his travel documents for the unexpected trip to South Africa.

“He was the reason why I went to South Africa, even though it wasn’t his call but he was the one that took charge of my travel documents,” Adiyiah said.

The South Africa trip lasted only a day of training before he was sent back to Ghana. By then, Feyenoord had already left for France.

The experience ultimately convinced Adiyiah that it was time to leave the club, as he felt the academy had failed to give him the opportunities he deserved.
