Carlos Queiroz’s future as Black Stars head coach is increasingly uncertain, with reports suggesting the Ghana Football Association (GFA) could turn to another coach after struggling to reach an agreement with the Portuguese.

Queiroz was appointed in April 2026, on a short-term contract to lead Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and successfully guided the team into the knockout stage.

However, negotiations over his continuation beyond the tournament have reportedly stalled.

The uncertainty has now been heightened by revelations that the GFA is already engaging other coaches as it weighs its options.

GFA Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo confirmed that the association remains in talks with other coaches for the Black Stars job, providing further indication that Queiroz’s position is far from settled.

“The Ghana Football Association is still in talks with other coaches for the Black Stars job,” Oduro Sarfo told Kumasi-based Ezra Radio.

The development comes despite calls for continuity following Ghana’s World Cup campaign.

President John Mahama had publicly backed the idea of retaining Queiroz, arguing that keeping the Portuguese and the current squad together could give Ghana a stronger chance of competing for major honours in the future.

However, reports indicate that Queiroz’s demands have complicated negotiations, leaving the GFA considering whether to continue with the experienced coach or pursue an alternative.

With the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers approaching, the association will be under pressure to resolve the situation quickly.
