Okwawu United centre-back Andy Gyamfi has joined the Black Meteors camp as Ghana’s U-23 side begins preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Gyamfi was among the locally based players called up by head coach Desmond Ofei as the coach begins building his squad ahead of Ghana’s qualifying campaign.

The young defender reported to camp and linked up with his new teammates as the Black Meteors commenced their training programme in Accra.

Gyamfi was part of the team’s training session at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, where he worked under Ofei and began integrating into the coach’s plans for the U-23 side.

His call-up comes after a consistent 2025/26 campaign with Okwawu United, where he established himself as a regular member of the team’s defensive setup.

The invitation provides Gyamfi with an opportunity to make a strong impression at the international level as he competes for a place in Ofei’s squad for the qualifiers.

Ghana have received a bye in the opening phase of the U-23 AFCON qualifiers and are expected to begin their campaign in October, although CAF is yet to announce the pairings.

The U-23 AFCON also carries added significance, with the tournament serving as the qualifying pathway to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Gyamfi will now hope to maintain his place in the squad as preparations continue and stake a claim for a spot in Ghana’s final qualifying team.
