Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren believes Ghana will face a much tougher challenge when they take on Cameroon in their second Group D match at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

After opening their campaign with a victory over Cape Verde, the Swedish tactician said his side has already shifted its focus to the next assignment.

"Like always, we're looking forward to the next game. We did what we should in the first game, we took the three points and moved on. We did good things, but there are also things we can learn from and improve," Björkegren said.

The coach expects Cameroon to provide a significantly tougher test, praising the Indomitable Lionesses for their quality, experience and balance across the squad.

"With respect to Cape Verde, it's going to be one level up. We're going to play against a good Cameroon team with experienced players and quality. They have a good balance because they also have young, hungry players," he explained.

Björkegren also noted that Cameroon’s new coach has had more time to work with the team, which he believes could make them more organised and difficult to break down.

"I know the coach has been coming into the team, and I guess that will help them because they're going to be potentially more organised," he noted.

Despite anticipating a difficult encounter, the Ghana coach remains confident in his players’ ability to rise to the occasion.

"I think it's going to be a tough one, but I know the girls very well now and I believe in them. I also know that when the opponent is more difficult to play against, it normally means we play a better game," he added.

The Black Queens will be aiming to build on their opening victory and take another step towards securing qualification to the knockout stage of the continental tournament.
