The immediate past President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah, has promised a cash reward to Amadu Mohammed, who will become Ghana's only boxer to reach the medal stage if he defeats Jye Dixon of Australia at the ongoing 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Mensah has pledged GH¢15,000 if Amadu wins the gold medal, GH¢10,000 for a silver medal, and GH¢5,000 for a bronze medal.

He made the pledge during a courtesy call on HRM King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II and the Ga Traditional Council following his return to Ghana.

The former GOC President, who is also the Noryaa Mantse of the Ga State, Special Aide to the King of Accra, and is known in chieftaincy circles as HRH Nii Kojo Ashifie Papanyira I, led Team Ghana, including the Black Bombers, to several international competitions during his tenure.

Among the notable achievements under his leadership were Samuel Takyi's bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which ended Ghana's 29-year Olympic medal drought, Team Ghana's five medals (two silver and three bronze) at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK, and the country's impressive medal haul at the 13th African Games held in Accra in March 2024.

He currently serves as a Board Member of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Vice Chairman of the ANOCA Marketing Commission, and a member of both the ANOCA Games Commission and the Working Group on the African Games.

Amadu Mohammed is Ghana's only guaranteed boxing medallist from the nine boxers who represented the country in their respective weight categories at the Games. He will be seeking a place in Saturday's gold medal bout when he faces Dixon in the men's bantamweight (55kg) semi-final on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Amadu, Africa's top-ranked bantamweight champion, also won the gold medal at the 13th African Games held in Accra in March 2024.
