Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has said that Carlos Queiroz will not be able to win laurels with the Black Stars if he continues to rely on defensive tactics.

According to him, the Portuguese manager’s tactical approach spells doom for the national team, making it difficult to end Ghana’s long trophy drought.

Afriyie indicated that he would not be surprised if Queiroz is dismissed, calling instead for ambitious coaches to lead the team to glory.

“No coach who adopts defensive tactics wins trophies. If we keep Carlos Queiroz for one or two years, we will eventually sack him. What motivation does he have to win a trophy for Ghana? If he were working for the government, he would already be retired," Afriyie questioned.

The football administrator further noted that the Black Stars need a more elite coach to salvage the team from its trophyless run, recalling his earlier campaign for an experienced manager.

“I told Ghanaians that we needed an experienced coach to take us through the situation we were in because we had little time. But people did not understand what I meant,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has yet to officially announce whether the Portuguese manager will continue in his role or step aside for a new coach, as his short-term contract has expired.
