Legendary Black Stars footballer Asamoah Gyan has announced the death of his father, George Gyan Baffour Mensah, in a social media post on July 24, 2026.
In the post shared on Instagram, Gyan expressed his gratitude that his father witnessed his exploits as a footballer and offered immense support throughout his career.
The former Sunderland striker also appreciated his late father’s relentless efforts in raising him and his siblings to become who they are today.

“I’m happy you saw my greatness, Dad. Thank you for taking good care of us. You will forever be in our hearts. R.I.P. (ASASE J),” Gyan wrote on Instagram.
George Gyan was born in 1944 and passed away on June 29, 2026.
The burial is scheduled for July 25, 2026, at Didcot OX11 in the United Kingdom.
