Ghana Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has admitted that selecting his final squad for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) will be one of the toughest decisions of his tenure.

The coach named a 27-player provisional squad for the tournament in Morocco last week but will eventually have to remove three players before submitting his final list.

Bjorkegren says the competition for places has created a difficult situation because of the strong bond within the team.

“It’s pressure on me, it’s pressure on the players as well. They know we are a big family here. They are fighting for their sports, and in the end we have to cut three of them, which will be very painful for all of us," he told the GFA Media in an interview.

Ghana are currently finalising preparations for the continental tournament, where they will compete in Group D against Cape Verde, Cameroon and Mali.

The Black Queens will begin their WAFCON campaign against Cape Verde on July 29 before facing Cameroon on August 2 and Mali on August 6.

All three group-stage matches will be played at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca.

With a provisional squad of 27 players competing for limited places, Bjorkegren faces the challenge of balancing team chemistry, player form and tactical requirements ahead of the tournament.
