A delegation made up of over 150 football legends, musicians, actors, politicians, business leaders, and media personalities paid a visit to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison on Thursday, May 21, 2026, to donate items and share words of encouragement with inmates.

The outreach programme was organised by the Kwesi Nyantakyi Foundation in partnership with the Joana Gyan Foundation, the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), and the Ghana Football Association.

Speaking after the visit, Amenfi Central MP Joana Gyan Cudjoe said the initiative was aimed at showing compassion and restoring hope to inmates.

“It was about touching lives. It was about reminding forgotten souls that they are still human beings, that they are loved, that they matter, and that there are still people who care about them,” she said.

The MP described the experience as emotional, noting that many inmates had ended up behind bars due to missed opportunities, poor decisions, or lack of legal representation.

“Today, I saw pain. Today, I saw regret. Today, I saw brokenness. But today, I also saw hope,” she stated.

“The most touching part for me was seeing the inmates crying, praying, smiling, and appreciating us for simply showing them love and humanity.”

The event also brought together former GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi and current GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, with organisers describing their joint appearance as a symbol of unity and national development.

Football legends including Abedi Ayew and Samuel Osei Kuffour, who currently serves as PFAG President, were part of the delegation. PFAG General Secretary Anthony Baffoe and Treasurer Solomon Torson also joined the exercise.

Musicians such as Dr Cryme, Patapaa, Stay Jay and Grace Ashley entertained inmates and shared messages of hope and encouragement.

Items donated included jerseys, footballs, tracksuits, bags of rice, fish, drinking water, and an undisclosed amount of cash for both inmates and prison officers.

The inmates’ team also featured in a football match against former Ghana national football team players, winning 3–2 on penalties after a 1–1 draw in regulation time (25 minutes each half).

Following their victory, the inmates were awarded a cash prize of GH₵20,000 for defeating the Black Stars legends.
