Gremio have blocked Francis Amuzu from joining the Black Stars for Ghana’s upcoming international friendly against Mexico.

According to reports from Filipe Duarte, the Brazilian club received notice that the winger was expected to report to Ghana’s national team camp on Thursday, May 14.

However, Gremio refused to release the player, citing the late timing of the call-up and the club’s important upcoming fixtures against Confianasa, Bahia, Palestino and Santos.

The development comes at a significant moment for Amuzu, who had earned his first-ever Black Stars call-up under new Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz.

The winger was born in Ghana but moved to Belgium at a young age and represented Belgium at youth level.

Amuzu had previously turned down an invitation to play for Ghana in 2022, insisting at the time that his international future remained with Belgium.

However, the 26-year-old recently switched allegiance and was set to finally begin his journey with the Black Stars before Gremio’s intervention.
